Coffee Smoothie with Banana
You may be thinking, do coffee and bananas really go together? And I’m here to tell you, yes, yes they do! And what better way to pair these two morning favorites together than into a smoothie.
This coffee banana smoothie recipe may just become your new go-to when you need a boost of caffeine along with the health benefits that the rest of the smoothie provides.
Frozen, ripe banana gives the smoothie a nice creamy texture, and, in my opinion, provides all the sweetness necessary.
With a base of Greek yogurt you’ll find that this protein-filled smoothie is a satisfying meal as much as it is a drink.
Why You’ll Love this Smoothie Recipe
Easy Grab-and-Go Breakfast – Smoothies are quick and easy to make and since this smoothie is Greek yogurt-based it’s extremely filling. It’s perfect for taking on-the-go, for those days when there’s just not enough time to sit down for breakfast.
Caffeinated – Cold brew coffee concentrate is what gives this smoothie all its coffee flavor and caffeine. This recipe only uses 2 ounces of concentrated coffee so it does not contain as much caffeine as a cup of brewed coffee, if that’s what you’re used to.
Lots of Healthy Variations – Like all smoothies, you can toss into the blender a variety of healthy add-ins. Popular options are chia seeds, flax seeds and protein powder. For additional sweetness, try Medjool dates (with the seeds removed).
How to Make a Coffee Banana Smoothie
A blender is needed to make this homemade smoothie. It doesn’t have to be an expensive Vitamix, but it does need to be able to do a good job with frozen items.
I find that a powerful single-serve blender gets the job done easily.
Ingredients
Coffee – Concentrated cold brew coffee is the key to a making a thick coffee smoothie. Since the coffee is concentrated you only need to use a small amount of liquid.
I use Starbucks cold brew concentrate, which is easily found in the coffee aisle of most stores.
Banana – Frozen, ripe banana makes this smoothie creamy and sweet.
And since the banana is frozen, there’s no need to add ice.
When I have bananas that look past their prime with black peels, I slice them into one-inch chunks and freeze them for smoothies later.
Then, when I’m ready to blend up a smoothie recipe that calls for a medium frozen banana, I use about eight pieces.
You can also use store-bought frozen bananas.
Greek Yogurt – I love using plain, non-fat Greek yogurt for the base of all my breakfast smoothies. It’s filled with protein and makes the smoothie extra thick and creamy.
Milk – A splash of milk helps thin out the smoothie. If you prefer more coffee flavor, you can double up on the cold brew and forgo the milk.
I make this smoothie with 2% milk, but feel free to substitute your preferred kind.
Sweetener (optional) – If the banana is ripe enough, then that’s all the sweetness I need. You can add in your favorite sweetener, as well, but I recommend giving it a taste test before doing so.
Step-by-Step Instructions
