What is Vanilla Sweet Cream Coffee Creamer?
Homemade vanilla sweet cream coffee creamer is a dairy creamer easily mixed together at home that combines heavy cream, whole milk and homemade vanilla syrup.
Basically, it’s flavored syrup and creamer all in one that’s equally delicious in hot and iced coffee beverages.
This sweet vanilla creamer was first popularized by Starbucks where you can add a splash to cold brew or any coffee, or have the barista aerate it into a creamy cold foam topping.
Best of all, the recipe for homemade vanilla coffee creamer could not be easier to make!
Why You’ll Love this Recipe
- Easy to make. Homemade vanilla coffee creamer only has 4 ingredients plus water, and takes less than 10 minutes to put together.
- Real ingredients. Store-bought coffee creamers often contain oil and additives, whereas this homemade vanilla creamer is real dairy, sweetener and pure vanilla extract. Basically, what you see, is what you get.
- Mulitiple ways to use this creamer. Homemade creamer made with heavy cream is versatile. You can add a splash in coffee, steam it into micro-foam for lattes or froth it into a cold foam drink topping.
- Recipe is easily customizable. Want another flavor? Simply swap the vanilla for another extract. Want a stronger vanilla flavor? Add more in. Prefer it less sweet? Use less sugar. (You get the idea.)

How to Make Vanilla Sweet Cream Coffee Creamer
Making vanilla sweet cream coffee creamer at home is as simple as flavoring a dairy base with homemade vanilla syrup.
Here’s all you need to make a batch.
Ingredients
- Heavy Whipping Cream
- Milk
- Vanilla Extract
- Sugar
- Water
Heavy whipping cream and milk for the dairy base: My go-to dairy for homemade coffee creamer is a two-to-one combination of heavy cream and whole milk.
However, the cream-base is easily adjusted according to your preferences.
For instance, if you prefer less rich creamer (and fewer calories) then simply use half-and-half. Half-and half is equal portions of heavy cream and whole milk, as its name implies.
For a more indulgent coffee creamer, sweetened condensed milk may be combined with whole milk. In this case, combine about 2 1/2 cups whole milk with a 14 ounce can of sweetened condensed milk.
As a bonus, there’s no need to make or buy vanilla syrup, as the sweetened condensed milk is sweet enough. The addition of vanilla extract is all that’s needed.
Vanilla extract, sugar and water for the vanilla syrup: Vanilla syrup gives the creamer both flavor and sweetness.
You have two options: make homemade syrup or buy a bottle of vanilla syrup. Starbucks vanilla syrup is my favorite.
If you make it at home, opt for pure vanilla extract over imitation. You can also use vanilla bean paste instead.
Use granulated cane sugar and preferably filtered water. This Brita water filter pitcher is a must if you need a way to filter water for drinks, ice and simple syrup recipes.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, bring water and sugar to a boil. Once boiling, reduce to a simmer. Stir until the sugar is dissolved (about 2 minutes).
- Remove saucepan from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Set aside to cool.
- Pour heavy cream and milk into a sterilized bottle. When the vanilla syrup is cool, pour the syrup into the bottle with a funnel if needed.
- Store the vanilla coffee creamer in the refrigerator and shake before use. The creamer is good until the soonest expiration date listed on the milk and heavy cream containers.
Detailed recipe and instructions are in recipe card at bottom of post.
Recipe Notes
- Add vanilla extract off-heat to avoid flavor burn-off.
- Whisk heavy cream and milk into cooled vanilla syrup before pouring into bottle or pour into bottle separately and shake to combine.
- This recipe yields 2 cups of coffee creamer. Store it in a sterilized glass bottle that has a capacity of at least 16 fluid ounces.
